Dancing Through Summer: How to Stay Active (and Inspired!) Over the Break
Friday 18th July 2025
Summer is a wonderful time for rest, sunshine, and time with family, but for dedicated dancers, it’s also an opportunity to keep moving and stay inspired. While class schedules may slow down during the holidays, your passion for dance doesn’t have to. In fact, this quieter season can be the perfect time to reconnect with the joy of dancing, without the pressure of exams or performances.
Staying active doesn’t need to mean long training sessions or strict routines. Just 10 to 15 minutes a day of gentle stretching can help keep your body supple and your muscles engaged. Whether it’s a morning stretch in the garden or a calming evening routine before bed, these moments of movement help maintain your flexibility and build strength gradually. Even small efforts make a big difference when they’re consistent.
Summer is also a great time to explore movement creatively. If you find yourself dancing around the living room or choreographing steps to your favourite songs, you’re already staying connected. Freestyle dancing at home can be a fun way to experiment with new styles and rediscover why you fell in love with dance in the first place. You might even try recreating a routine from class or building your own mini performance just for fun.
Music is another powerful source of inspiration. Building your own dance playlist with songs that lift your mood or make you want to move can help spark spontaneous dance moments throughout the day.
It’s also important to stay connected to your dance family during the break. Reaching out to your friends from class or sharing your summer dance videos can help maintain the sense of community we all value so deeply.
Lastly, it’s essential to remember that rest is part of your growth. Taking time to relax and recharge isn’t a step backward — it’s a step toward coming back stronger, more inspired, and ready to embrace the new term ahead. Nourish your body, enjoy your time off, and know that your journey in dance continues even during quiet moments.
This summer, we hope all our dancers find time to move with joy, stretch with intention, and stay inspired. We can’t wait to see what you bring back to class when term starts again.
